Life, Journaling, Creativity, and Lessons I've Learned

Last year, I blogged about setting goals for the new year. And man, I had a lot of them – both scrapbooking and personal goals. I completed about half of my goals in each category. Which is really not that bad in the scheme of things.

I'm still a bit ticked at myself for not getting everything done, but life happens, you know? Medical stuff happens. Too much medical stuff. And all the travel and focusing on experiencing life we tried to do got in the way of some of the other goals.

I think, basically, that I just set the bar way too high for myself, especially for scrapbooking. So this year, I'm taking some time to really think things through before I try to put some plans in motion. There's also the big unknown factor about where Emily will go to college in the fall that keeps getting in my way.

Every time I try to decide something, this is what happens.

Okay, self, you'll have more time to scrapbook/redo the basement/try to go back to work/get anything done this year because we won't be traveling nearly as much as we did last year.

Except that Emily's applied to nine colleges, including three colleges in New England. At least a 20-hour drive away. And we haven't visited any of them. So ………….. if she gets accepted to them AND they're affordable options, we'll have to go visit them over spring break in April.

And oh yeah, she's also applied to a school in California. But I try not to think about that.

And we can't plan our summer at all yet because we don't know where she's going to college or when the summer orientation will be or when she'll start and when we'll have to move her in or how far away from home it will be…..

Sigh. It's all really exciting stuff happening and marks an enormous change in our family life but it makes it hard to figure out any kind of schedule.

So this is why I'm taking the time to think things through. It's hard to plan and set goals when there are so many other things that you can't control.

I do have a few scrapbooking projects that I simply have to finish or I'll go nuts. I still have more layouts to do for both 2014 and 2015 Project Life. And I absolutely will get those done.

I also haven't finished my Week in the Life album from last September and I want to finish that. It's about half done.

And what to do for 2016 Project Life? I feel a huge sense of freedom not being on any creative teams this year and the possibilities are endless. I'm thinking of going back to a monthly format like I did in 2013 but I'm not sure.

Let me know your thoughts! Any scrapbooking goals for 2016? Any suggestions for how I can fit in more in less time?
