Beth and I were planning on talking about her diagnosis today but it's taking me longer than I thought to write that post. It's harder than I thought to revisit those emotions, too, so I'm going to come back to it in a little bit. Plus, in her post yesterday, Emily's Thoughts, my oldest daughter brought up our favorite book about seizures and I wanted to say a bit more about it.
The book is Becky the Brave: A Story about Epilepsy
If you have a child under 10 with seizures or know a child with seizures and wonder how to explain it to your kids, this is the book you want. It gives a basic explanation of seizures as well as an understanding of what the child with epilepsy might be feeling.
As a mom, this book also made me realize how very scary the social aspects of seizures can be, too. I've said it a million times but Beth is truly the definition of courage and bravery to me.
I created this layout after she had the seizure at school and used to have it framed in our hallway so that she would always know how proud we were of her.
When I look at this layout, my first thought is just how cute she was a second-grader. And when I think about how little she was AND that she'd been battling epilepsy for over two years at this point, I'm just awed by her courage.
